Emerald Hurst is not a metered sim but we do use a dice system. To use modifiers in EH you must use our hud and use dice rolls for combat, magic, and all other attribute uses.

Combat Role-Play

Bart was behind the bar when he heard the mention of the word cake from that man's mouth again. He felt his eye twitch and quickly he was vaulting over the bar to be on that side of it. "What did I tell you?" He said in a low, threatening tone. "Don't mention the fucking cake again." but the cake had really gotten under his skin and he reached out to slap the other.

[04:07] [EH] D100: Bart rolled a 10 (Bart attempted so he rolls first)

[04:09] [EH]  D100: Mark rolled a 1 (Bas lost the roll and takes the slap and now will respond)

This puts them at Bart no hits, Mark 1 hit. Three hits they are defeated.

Mark starred at the man while he stood there waiting for the answer he wanted regarding this mysterious cake ploy. “I see just the mere mention of it gets you all worked up.” this tidbit of knowledge brought a very small slither of happiness to the man, although he didn't show it. Next thing he knew the was being slapped, this having him blink a few times “What the fuck is wrong with you? Do you normally go around slapping your patrons in your bar? What if I punched you.” Reaching up with his left fist to try to punch him in the shoulder.

Bas lost the roll and takes the slap and now will respond)

[04:12] [EH]  D100: Mark rolled a 9 (Mark attempted so he rolls first)

[04:12] [EH]  D100: Bart rolled a 20 (Bart avoided Marks punch)

Bart felt his hand connect with the man's face and quickly pulled it back. "No, not all of them. Just the ones who irritate me." He decided. At the man's words, Bart knew it was time to get the fuck away from there because he wasn't about to get slapped in the face, as Mark’s hand moved, Bart shifted his body to the right, avoiding his fist. "Do you normally hit people in their place of business?" Bart inquired, trying to keep the other talking as he moved to try and jab his elbow into the other's side.

[04:19] [EH]  D100: Bart rolled a 3 (Notice modifiers does not mean automatic win lol Bart attempted so rolls first)

[04:19] [EH]  D100: Mark rolled a 15 (Mark rolls and avoids the jab)

No hits were taken its still Bart- 0 hits, Mark- 1 hit.

Mark smirked "You act like I care where I hit people. If you fuck up, you get hit, I dont give a fuck where we are, or who is around. If you don't want your great grammy seeing you take a beating or your employees watching you become my full time bitch I suggest you mind your shit and not put your hands on me. He ducked just in time to miss the jab from the man and reached out with a hand to try to push him back away. "You are gonna start something you can't finish if you keep it up."

[04:24] [EH]  D100: Mark rolled a 14  (Mark attempted he rolls first)

[04:19] [EH]  D100: Bart rolled a 17  (Bart rolled and win so does not get pushed)

This would continue on until a players hit count is at 3 or 4 depending. Most players have a hit count of 3.

Modifiers

Playing with modifiers can make things more interesting. Players would use the above mentioned style for dice combat while also adding the format below for the modifier they are using. To add a modifier to a roll players will push the hud, then select ‘roll’, add your modifier, then enter your reason. If you do not enter a reason it will not add the modifier, then select ok. All modifiers that are going to be used must be listed in the reason.

Players will either use brawn or favor during combat. They can be used against each other. It does not matter what the other player is using. If you are a magic user, most likely you will want to stack favor. If you are a fighter that relies on strength (wolf) you would want to use brawn. Merfolk tend to use their song during combat, they would want to stack presence. Presence for Vampires is not combative.

B = Brawn

A = Agility

I = Intelligence

P = Presence

W = Willpower

F = Favor

L = Luck

In Emerald Hurst players are to put their Character name and attribute values in a profile pic, if you have two characters each must have their own pic. This is a must have.

When you post no matter the reason if you plan to make a roll it should be stated within the post. This allows the other player (if there is to be a roll against) a heads up that you will be adding a modifier to your roll and they should allow time for it to happen. As long as you have it within your post you can add the modifier even if they happen to accidentally roll before you are able to get the modifier typed and sent. If you DO NOT have it within your post, you CAN NOT add a modifier to your roll if they roll before you get it sent. Otherwise this appears that you are only adding modifiers if needed. Below is an example of adding the modifier acknowledgment within a post during role-play.

Adding a modifier for a Brawn example:

Basuin looks at the man in front of him and calculates his plan of action. With a quick glance to his left then back he would lunge for the one directly in front of him hoping the force of the impact if made would be enough to knock him to his feet. "I told you not to eat my cookies." (Brawn modifier)

[03:56]  Basuin the Bastard rolled: 13

[03:56] Basuin Manner (emersonlanks): +9 brawn = 22

Here it was indicated with the post that a modifier would be added to the roll. Without this modifiers CAN NOT be added. There is no exception to this rule. We realize people forget, it happens to us all. Not adding a modifier to a roll is not the end of the world. Relax, and try to remember to add to your next post.

Adding a modifier for a Favor example:

Standing at the counter he looks over the items laying before him. Slightly confused on which was actually supposed to go together as he was still learning his craft of mixing potions. Offering a slight shrug he began by picking up the brightest colored item, which was a vial of bright green liquid. "I don't remember what this is." mumbling to himself. Then he would choose a loose powder substance. "Maybe I should have taken notes." He looks around making sure nobody was watching incase this exploded in his face. He was hoping this was the mixture for his version of miracle grow. Shaking the powder into the liquid he waits for the outcome. (favor modifier)

[04:19]  Basuin the Bastard rolled: 8

[04:19] Basuin Manner (emersonlanks): +2 Favor = 10

Here this would be a fail roll as you need 75 or higher to be successful in this type (non combative) roll.

Adding a modifier for Presence and Luck at the same time example:

The man enters the tavern scanning the room looking for someone or something, some days they were one in the same. His steps were heavy as he moved towards the bar, his time was limited. Seeing the NPC bartender he waved him over. Trying to influence the man he looked him directly in the eye "Where is your boss?" He hoped he had enough presence over him to persuade him to answer. (Presence and Luck modifiers)

[04:26]  Basuin the Bastard rolled: 5

[04:26] Basuin Manner (emersonlanks): +1 Presence +2 Luck = 8

Here this would be a fail roll as you need 75 or higher to be successful in this type (non combative) roll. Remember Luck can only be used once per scene.

Weakening

There is a few ways you will be able to weaken a player. Either through Magic, Sickness and Chilling hands, these are two non combative spells that will weaken a player.  The other way is through potions. You can also role-play making or having them made for it..

These are success rolls.

Next your target can roll a willpower..   And use their modifier.. They will need to roll  75 or higher. So lets say this part fails for the target.  So now the player has been successfully weakened.

For the rest of the scene their modifiers are cut in half. This will include all of their modifiers . They rounded to the highest. So if they have a 16 in Favor its now an 8, only for that scene though..

Freeform Role-Play

Freeform in Emerald Hurst means two or more player are engaging in combat without the use of dice. Players take turns performing an action against another, then that said player reacts to the action against them. It is up to the player that is receiving the action to determine if they take the hit or not. This is where a players reasonable assessment comes into play. Those with powers/abilities can use them, but be reasonable. A werewolf is fast and strong, but would most likely fall to their knees if poked hard in the eye. Take the hits, its fun for both sides when you show your character can be vulnerable. Nobody wants to role-play with someone that refuses to take damage, or perceives him/herself to be Godly. Emerald Hurst leans heavily towards using dice, as it is designed around players having modifiers. Both players must consent to using freeform, other wise dice from our provided HUD must be used.

Example of freeform role-play:

Bart stood there. He wasn't one to normally resort to violence, but at the moment, something overcame him. His fingers curled into a fist as he took a deep breath. In the next second before he had time to process his actions, his fist swung out at the much larger man in front of him.

Mark watched the man before him as his anger grew. Bart wasn't the one to hide it very well. Marks focus was more on Barts facial expressions than what his hand was doing. Before he knew it the fist met his left side jaw, sending him backwards, just enough to lose his footing momentarily but not enough to make him go down. "Really now, this is how you want to do this. I told you, if you try to provoke me, I can't be held responsible for my actions." Without another word spoken Mark reaches up to attempt to grab Bart by the throat with his right hand. (As you can see, Mark took Bart's hit.)

Bart had a brief panic attack when his fist did connect with the man's jaw. "Oh shit.." He said under his breath as the mistake he made resonated within him. He went to step back quickly, hoping to retreat but of course he wasn't moving very fast. His throat was caught by the other and he found himself staring at him, half in horror, half like a dog that had been scolded. "I was just.. lemme go.." He tried, the man squirming and trying to bring his knee up in between Mark's legs. (As you can see, Bart took Marks hit)

Mark smirked when the mans now higher pitched voice demanded he let him go "I dont think so." Before Bart had the chance to knee him he had pushed the man away from him as far as he could while still hanging onto his throat, missing the attempt. "Now now you are getting feisty over there. It seems I have you by the throat, are you sure you want to keep this up, it could turn really bad for you." Relaxing his grip just a bit, but still holding on "Play nice, and fix me a sandwich like a good little bitch." (As you can see, Mark did not take the hit here)
